Social media is a great way for us to stay connected. If you don’t know already, you can connect with frosh and upper-year students at UW in the University of Waterloo Class of 2018, Frosh 2013 group on Facebook. There, you can ask some general questions about what it’s like at UW from food to entertainment to rez.
There are also sub frosh groups for some of the engineering programs. These groups are great for meeting your classmates and asking program-specific questions. Here are the ones I have managed to find:
Architecture | Chemical Engineering | Civil Engineering | Electrical & Computer Engineering | Environmental Engineering | Management Engineering | Mechanical Engineering | Mechatronics Engineering | Nanotechnology Engineering | Software Engineering | System Design Engineering
I also highly recommend that you join the Groups at Waterloo network. It requires your uWaterloo email address to join and once you have access to the network, you will be able to see all the UW-related groups available on Facebook. While some groups are for clubs and academic-related things, there are also groups for housing, events and parties, used goods, and more! This network makes it incredibly easy for you to meet new people that are in your grad class or share similar interests.
UW has also provided their own list of official social media links here. I’m following the University of Waterloo on Facebook and Twitter to stay updated on what’s going on at UW. Another good one for us engineering students is uWaterloo Engineering, both on Facebook and Twitter.
I really appreciate social media for allowing us to connect from all around the world! :)
